We are happy to welcome Australian artists Tanya Schultz, Nicole Andrijevic and John Kassab to Smiths Row in what is their first major British show. Schultz and Andrijevic have worked in collaboration since 2007 using the alias Pip & Pop and this is their second collaboration with sound artist Kassab.

Sweet sweet galaxy is a unique installation depicting an infinite psychedelic landscape. An amalgamation of numerous materials including coloured sugar, fine sand, cake decorations, origami, found objects, LED lights and sound, this colourful sensory kingdom will be constructed directly in the gallery space in early January.

The soundscape, created in collaboration with Melbourne-based John Kassab, adds another layer of immersion to the audience experience and sense of being transported to a faraway or imagined place. Whilst the soundscape adds to the narrative of the imagined landscape, interpreting the sounds with sugar has been central to Pip & Pop's process when working with John.

The sugar used in this exhibition has been kindly donated by Silverspoon. As the sole producers of homegrown British sugar the company supports 1200 East Anglian beet farmers. According to Dan Gough of Silverspoon: "the sugar used in this exhibition was grown an average of 30 miles away from the gallery".

Los Osos, CA. The Nik Software Complete Collection that I purchased on sale at the California Photo Festival arrived yesterday in the mail. After installing it on my computer, I registered it and by the following morning an e-mail had arrived saying that because I had purchased the complete set, my free copy of the NIK HDR Efex Pro that was now available was waiting for me. After downloading it, I went to www.niksoftware.com/hdrefexpro/usa/help/ and copied information on getting started, used the interface ("Scroll over and click on the elements to learn about the tools and see them in action. Clickable items are denoted by a yellow dot.") Then I downloaded and printed the twenty-three page Quick Start Guide and plunged into doing my first HDR using the software. Although I know I could have done much more to the image, I wanted to compare it to other ways of doing the same set of photos in HDR and was amazed at how clear it came out. Now I need to learn more about using HDR Efex Pro and the NIK Software Complete Collection which should be fun.

phototrackr
free photo software
just before i'm going on holidays, i've bought a phototrackr!

the software that came with the phototrackr is quite horrible (not only the layout, but it also took me quite some time before i succeeded to get the gps data in the pictures), so i've decided to use the free software geosetter. happier now: much more detailed, more user friendly, and a better layout!

concerning the phototrackr itself:
+ able to adjust recording speed between 1 and 3600 seconds.
+ small and quite fast
- only able to adjust recording speed and other hardware changes when the phototrackr is connected to a computer
- after changing hardware / battery it needs 10 minutes to find gps data

just a regular comment on photos: i don't like it that the exif data gets lost when cropping a file with irfanview. i don't want to use photoshop or other big programs if i only need to crop pictures. love irfanview, because it's simple and very fast to use

This is a famous (unreal and rather juvenile looking) textbook photo of Chandrashekhar 'Azaad', for those who don't know him, google search is at ur service as this flickr thing doesn't provide me 100 pages to narrate, for those who know him, needless to mention anything. Ture icon of bravery, comparatively less famous (not off late, thanx to RDB) to other freedom fighters; it was so pleasing to see his photo on the 'kaccha' wall of the principal's cabin in a secondary school of a village!
If at all, mustaches can be considered a sign of True Male XY attitude, he certainly deserves this length!

Fearless: 11 of 31
photo magazine
The Fearless shoot was my chance to really plan a shoot unique to my creative relationship with Alexandra Rodionova. The goal was to compare fashion of today with fashion and photography of around the time I was born, (1967). I used two full issues of Andy Warhol's original Interview Magazine for the background. It was a tough choice cutting up those magazines. These are really rare and really expensive. But if I wasn't going to put everything I had into this it just wouldn't be worth doing. This was one of those shoots were everything came together. The hair, (Mark), the makeup, (Caroline), the outfit, the background, the lighting, everything.

Nice Image Editing Online photos

bleeding candle

I haven't really talked about my photo workflow since I got my new MacBook pro. So, here you go.

Using Image Capture, I import the photos into a folder on my desktop named New Pictures. Image Capture allows you to run an Automator Workflow, so it also opens up HoudahGeo, Photoshop, and iPhoto. Finally the workflow asks for photos to view, then opens them up in Preview. I delete the rejects in Preview.

Next, I drag my new photos into HoudahGeo. It lets me easily and efficiently add geotagging info to my photos. I save those, and now my photos know where they were taken (in iPhoto, in Flickr, etc).

Typically, I revisit my photos, and delete ones that don't impress me again.

Next, I edit photos one at a time in Photoshop. Recently, I've been using LAB mode. It preserves the histogram, and therefore the integrity, of the photos. I typically bump up the contrast (using a variety of ways) too.

I use 1001 to upload my photos to Flickr. It's free, and easily lets me send new pics to my photo-a-day set and several groups.

The final step (on my local hard drive) is to drag the keeper photos into iPhoto. I like editing and geotagging the photos before iPhoto. If you edit in iPhoto, it creates an original file and a modified file. I think that's lame. Also, I like having the geocoding info written into the exif data of the photo itself. The new iPhoto doesn't do a great job of that.

Once online, I add every photo-a-day picture to its Flickr set, and then add it to my photo-a-day blog. To get it to blogger, I manually create a post. I use TextExpander to paste in all the info so you can see the picture, when I created it, leave a description, and the formatting is all set.

Animated GIF of the tide coming in. Standing on the Virginia side of the Potomac River just a few miles from the bay. About 200 frames, Lossy 13. It is about 8 MB so takes a while to finish loading. If you use it as a powerpoint motion background (for those w/out video background players) -- try putting a transparent colored auto rectangle on top of the gif but under the lyrics.

I think this one works better than the other one like it. The frames loop better.

Sweet, Sweet Galaxy by Pip & Pop

Smiths Row, The Market Cross, Cornhill, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk IP33 1BT
Tel: +44 (0) 1284 762081
