Simplified version of the previous post "Refuge Sun Over Kalil Tree". That one was saturated with color and had a lot of post processing. This one is processed even more, but I tried to minimize the distractions of the image.

PLEASE, no multi invitations, glitters or self promotion in your comments, THEY WILL BE DELETED. My photos are FREE for anyone to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks - NONE OF MY PICTURES ARE HDR.

The Antonine Baths are a huge Roman bath complex in ancient Carthage. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Built from 145 to 165 AD, mostly during the reign of the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, the Antonine Baths were among the largest baths to be built in the Roman world and were the largest such complex in North Africa.

The baths contained a number of rooms and chambers standard to such ancient bath complexes, including the Frigidarium (cold room), Caldarium (hot room), Tepidarium (hot bath).

Originally it would have had many stories, the remains that can be seen today are mostly from the lower level.

The ruins of the Antonine Baths are certainly worth exploring and provide a picturesque location, positioned as they are against the backdrop of the ocean.

Transit site for families fleeing the Ivory coast conflict
photo sites
A transit site where Oxfam installed a 10,000 liter water bladder and taps as well as latrines and wash facilities for men and women.

In 2011, thousands of refugees fled from Ivory Coast to neighboring countries, including Liberia, following the political crisis after disputed elections in November 2010. In the first week of April 2011 alone, it's estimated that more than nine thousand refugees arrived in the south-eastern Liberian coastal city of Harper, in Maryland county, after many villages were attacked.

An abandoned school building on the outskirts of the city was then home to more than 4,600 people. The site was designed as a temporary transit center for 1,500 people – but burst at the seams. The early arrivals got tents; but those who arrived later had to sleep on the floors of the derelict schools; others have built makeshift wooden shelters themselves, using leaves as a roof to try to shield them from the searing sun and the occasional rain.

Oxfam has installed a 10,000 liter water bladder and taps to provide clean water for the refugee community. We've installed latrines and separate washing areas for men and women and begun distributing non-food items. We've also drilled a borehole at a more permanent refugee camp in the county which can house up to 15,000 people.

“In this situation where you have a very limited space, and where you have large crowds of refugees, outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, and such as dystentery would have been a major problem”, said Shemeles Mekonnen, Oxfam’s public health engineer in Harper. “But with the arrival of Oxfam on time, we have provided clean water as well as sanitation facilities as well as non food item distribution such as jerry cans, water buckets, bathing places as well as soap and mosquito nets. “

Many refugees walked several days before they arrived in Liberia; and arrived with nothing, having fled for their lives. They gave harrowing accounts of brutal attacks on their villages and looting, fighting and burning.

Oxfam has been working in Liberia for more than a decade.

'Fisherman's Bastion', Hungary, Budapest, Fisherman's Bastion

Below is an excerpt from my travel blog. Cheers.

I think people forget that Budapest was the second capital of the Hungarian-Ottoman Empire. All to often I encounter people who associate Budapest as being on the fringe of European culture, but it's anything but that. In my opinion, Budapest is one of the more splendidly ornate and historically important centers of Europe. This photo was taken on one the highest points in 'Buda', overlooking the Danube and 'Pest' off in the distance. This stretch of wall located on Castle Hill was originally defended by the fishermen of the city in the Middle Ages. Because of its excellent panoramic view of the city, it naturally became a popular site and the area took on the name of 'Fisherman's Bastion'.

A few photographer's and even friends have recently asked about running their own website or having a blog. It's actually easier than you'd imagine to set up your own domain name and get a blog up and running. You don't need to know any programming and you can even customize your site so that it doesn't resemble other blogs on the web. The best user-friendly program that I've come across is called Wordpress. The company has created a template-like structure and approach to building a website that allows an average web user to construct their own site with ease. It does take a little bit of research and getting to know the program but it's nothing too complicated and won't leave you confused and annoyed. www.wordpress.com is the site.

This is my photo for the 26th. We were suppost to celebrate Australia Day at the Beach with the car club but when I woke up in the morning I was feeling way to sick to go anywhere. So instead of lovely beach and old car pictures this will have to do. Took 2 pictures, one of the inside of the bedroom and one of the sky outside and stuck them together.

To animate an image this size (500 x 500) scroll down to the first comment. A much larger (930 x 958) animated image is available by viewing the original size image (click all sizes, above)

The purpose here is not to duplicate the original image, from Okinawa Soba's stream, but to generate a downloadable animated gif to assist viewing and presentation.

Okinawa Soba posted several CC licensed stereoimages by Japanese and western photographers documenting life in early 20th century Japan (the Meiji period). The original Underwood & Underwood image, presented for cross-eyed viewing and showing a Geisha walking down a path with stone lanterns, is one of many stunning stereo compositions. There is no copyright date and it is believed this image has no known restrictions on publication. This animated gif version exploits motion parallax to give a stereo illusion without eyestrain, to see what the photographer envisioned.
