I don't know who this distant relative was, but he pops up in other vintage photos and it looks like he's from Edwardian times? I'm not good with guessing years based on clothes though. Taken in Napa, California. I found out his name is Philip Berrimen.

Stressed a bit.

I'm still trying to find that elusive job in journalism or media. So far it's been fruitless.

At my current job, today was pretty nice. Had fun interacting with all the guests.

Come home, have dinner...then the grandmother bangs and dislocates her elbow in her bathroom doorway and is now at the hospital with my parents. Sigh. Stressful and worrisome. She should be fine though. Lots of waiting in the ER. She's having to be anesthetized and have her elbow popped back into place, which is obviously the proper medical name for this procedure.

Meanwhile, I'm looking after the dog and staying by the phone.

Brighter days ahead. And I was going to say look for some bright sunny photos in the next few days, but it looks like rain is headed my way again…so maybe not.

EDIT: accidentally selected Replace for this photo by mistake. meant to do it for another photo. stupid browser tabs and forgetting which photo is selected! Original photo put back properly.

Fiddler on the roof...?

A few nice photo sharing images I found:

Fiddler on the roof...?
photo sharing
what this inspired (the reason for the edition of the original): we are much into working, texting, 'sexing', seeing, hearing but not "communicating" (from Latin "communis", meaning to share)...

even the sandboxes around me are getting emptier and emptier; children already aged 8-9 do texting... still a condition i find weird; but possibly reflects the trend...
nope, it was not the 'Fiddler on the roof', it is the problem of "Communication"...

that building is a 10 floor block of concrete... those guys were installing a new antenna or whatever on that roof... it was a really spring sunday for me, sipping my coffee... and they had to work...
distance to objects is ~100 meters... shot with the kit lens 18-105mm, d7k.
this is a crop of my previous "antenna guys" photo... DSC_1238_gimp

Legalize Happiness

Among the many things to love about the Exploratorium is the feeling of sharing, openness, and transparency.

The workshops where the exhibits are made are fully visible to the visitors. Sometimes these views are as fascinating as the exhibits!

The title of this photo comes from a sign (bumper sticker?) attached to the desk, barely visible (and not legible in this low resolution version) in the lower right corner of the photo.

Details, details.

Apple's a lying ass.

It states specifically on apple's website that all MacBook pros can drive the 30 inch Apple Cinema Display. Well, I beg to differ.

The above photo shows what happens when I connect the aforementioned expensive as hell pieces of equipment. I've probably wasted 3-6 hours on this already wiping ram, installing updates, arguing on the phone, even taking my laptop into the apple store. All they said was that it's a known issue and are working on a fix. Kiss my ass and gimme my money back.

*update:
After talking to Apple's technical support line [for 2.5 hours] the conclusion that this is a problem that has never been seen before, and no one knows what it is was reached. Great, just my luck that I get the freakish guinea pig technical problem.

*resolution:
The MBP came back. According to the little invoice that comes with it the technicians replaced the motherboard. It now operates properly with the monitor.

I have been going through a bunch of my old photos and ran across this photograph that I took back in 2005 with my first digital camera. It was a 3 megapixel Canon point & shoot. When I first 'discovered' the old image I liked the photograph, but was a bit concerned with it's lack of resolution. Then I had the thought of "Well, let's take it into Topaz Adjust and smooth it out a bit". Of course, it still does not have a lot of detail, (actually even less than before) but with the painterly effect, you don't really need the detail and you end up with what I would consider a very pleasing photograph. Your thoughts?

Where do good ideas come from? We discovered how to generate ideas through games with toy designer Barry Kudrowitz. In a series of team games based on improvisational comedy training, Lab participants activated the parts of their brains associated with innovation and build specific skills related to prolific idea generation. This is one of the 15 pieces of canvas from Uganda that I will be exhibiting (And selling) this Friday in Kalamazoo. I wrote a blogpost about the experience and where the proceeds will be going.

For this picture though, I wanted to take some shots of several of the canvases so I just walked around my house/yard with them. This one worked well on the blue canvas we're using to cover our wood pile :). Here's a link to the original image I uploaded of this bike.

The fourth and final kitty is actually an old stray that we call HCP. (For convenience, let's just leave out what the acronym stands for.)

He's an amusing one, and has a kind of sad story of abandonment for a past, but I'm just glad things are looking slightly better for him and we can at least feed him now.

Allhallows water pumping station, Rousdon, east Devon
upload photos
Originally uploaded for the Guesswhere UK group.

This is the remains of the Allhallows (or Rousdon) water pumping station just east of the Dowlands landslide complex, between Seaton, Devon and Lyme Regis, Dorset. It was steam-driven and used to pump water from the undercliff up to the farms and dwellings on the top of the cliff.

This is located next to the South West Coast Path which runs through the Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliff National Nature Reserve, a conservation area of international importance. This is an area of extensive landslides which have created a jumble of ridges and chasms, now the location of luxurious woodland and special habitats for plants, birds, insects and other animals.

The 'undercliff' is the area between the beach and the back landslide scarp face, which may be as much as 700 metres inland.

Late upload, my bad, I'll get onto today's photo after I've written this too. Things just get left til the last minute sometimes don't they? This is a close up of Holly's belated christmas present, I got her an giant angry birds from the iPhone game. It's like a 16" cushion or some other ridiculous size, but she loves it which is the main thing. I had such issue trying to get one, i ordered two and neither arrived so I had to order another after christmas which arrived the same week, typical. I got refunded for the others at least. Have you ever seen a bigger frown?

Also my amazing girlfriend Holly is doing a 100km walk from London to Brighton over 24hrs in aid of Asthma UK. Anything any of you could give to help her and other asthma sufferers out would be incredible. Thanks internet! Click here to sponsor her.

The Rekord P II grew in size, if not in wheelbase, and received a totally new body that did away with wraparound windows. It was available in several body versions: 2-door and 4-door saloon, a 3-door estate ("Caravan") plus delivery van, a pick-up, and a convertible. From August 1961 on, a works coupé became available, and in June 1962 a more luxurious "L" version was added with a new top engine of 1700 cc "S" and a higher compression ratio. The latest versions had an optional four-speed gearbox.

1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 Fiesta Hardtop Station Wagon (01)
picture sizes
The Oldsmobile 88 (a.k.a. Eighty-Eight) is a full-size car sold by the Oldsmobile division of General Motors and produced from 1949 until 1999. From 1950 to 1974 the 88 was the division's top-selling line, particularly the entry-level models such as the 88 and Dynamic 88. The 88 series was also an image leader for Oldsmobile, particularly in the early years (1949–51) when it was one of the best performing automobiles thanks to its relatively small size, light weight and advanced overhead-valve high-compression V8 engine originally designed for the larger and more luxurious 98 series but dropped into the smaller six-cylinder Oldsmobile 76 body, creating what was considered the predecessor of musclecars of the 1960s.

A large number of variations in nomenclature were seen over this long model run—Delmont, Delta, Dynamic, Jetstar, Starfire, Super, Holiday, L/S, LSS, Celebrity, and Royale were used at various times with the 88 badge, and Fiesta appeared on some station wagons in the 1950s and 1960s. The name was more commonly shown as numbers in the earlier years ("Delta 88", for example) and was changed to spell-out "Eighty Eight" starting in 1989.

The Oldsmobile Eighty Eight was produced in Wentzville, Missouri; Flint, Michigan; and Lake Orion, Michigan.

(Wikipedia)
