I can't believe it's been over a month since I've uploaded a picture! Time flies... My intention was to post one a week from the December trip, but I haven't done a very good job with that.
This shot is one that I've envisioned for quite some time, just never have been in the right place at the right time. Compositional wise I still don't feel like I totally nailed it. That and the sky could have been a little better I think.
Mostly processed in Dynamic Photo HDR. This is three handheld exposures, which is why there is some blur in the trees on the right. One of the caveats of HDR I suppose. Some slight cloning / clean-up in Paintshop.

Henry Holiday's Snark: Comparisons

Some comparisons which I made between Henry Holiday's illustrations to Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark and other images.
Copyright: These image comparisons have been compiled in the years 2009 and 2010, using images which are at least older than 130 years. As for the level of originality of this image uploaded to Flickr: It is the combination of images which generates significantly new information about a well known poem in British literature. Since 1876 this is the first time that for illustrations by Henry Holiday to Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark pictorial quotes from other paintings, prints and photos can be shown with a high level of confidence. (Sorry for bragging. But I need to make clear, that this is something really new and that I didn't just upload copied material to Flickr.)

Printed from photos I took of the trees off the porch, photoshopped into photos of the window frames. This one worked the best except the big curtains. So the idea is for the window shades to look as if there is no shade on the window (although I used slightly nicer views of the outside trees)

With my new rented flat, I decided to print some of my pics as wall decoration (not a bad idea :-P). I finally ended with too much of them :) I was so happy to see them printed.
I went to a professional photolab to get those shots.
According to Flickr's policy, I'm not supposed to say that, but I wish I could sell some of those framed pictures. Just knowing that some people would appreciate that in their home makes my little heart warmer.
The picture entitled "Where To?", attached on the wall is a 90x60cm (1m long with the frame). I never thought frames would be that expensive...
I realized that view represents some my most Flickr's insteresting shots :-O.
And they are all take in the last 6 months!

Angel and I thought it would be fun to send out a goofy Christmas card with all our animals. We even sat for a self-administered photo session, but we never got around to sending the cards. Getting the animals together for the shoot was no picnic. This was the best one we came up with, but as you can see, Phoebe still wasn't too keen on the whole arrangement.

ezimba is a web site that can apply different imaging effects.
www.ezimba.com/index.html
I used one picture for all the effects just for consistency for comparison. The title for each photo consists of the category of the effect and the name of the effect. Some effects would be better used on a different image. There are some effects also that appear to do the same thing in different effect categories.
Ezimba also has a Facebook app, Google Android app, and a free iPhone app. Please note that the free iPhone app puts a small logo on the edited image. You can buy the paid ezimba app and not have the logo.

My step sister, a teacher, always wants to give the kids a special gift at the end of the school year. These started as those 25 cent bare wood cutouts one finds at the big craft stores.
Utilizing metallic acrylic paint, glitter glue, a glue stick, sequins, and school photos, I was able to create 28 awesome large magnet keepsakes.
This would also be a great project to actually do with students in the classroom.
Or have premade up and sell at craft fairs or fundraisers....the buyer takes them home and glues on their own child's photo.
Oooh~~~ a birthday party craft...this would be extremely fun and inexpensive for the kids. You could have containers of beads, macaroni or plastic letters to glue on names with gel glue, puffy paints, glitter, etc.
I can also see these created into little magnetized locker mirrors....for the older teens. Perhaps with some colorful mosaics.

This busy night time panorama was photographed by one of the Expedition 30 crew members from the International Space Station on Dec. 26, 2011. Comet Lovejoy streaks through the star-filled sky just to the right of center. The land mass is the coast of Chile, looking southeast, with several coastal cities in the capital city region near Santiago. A 28-mm focal length was used to record the image.

SpaceX Dragon Berths at the International Space Station (NASA, 05/25/12)

With rays of sunshine and the thin blue atmosphere of Earth serving as a backdrop, the SpaceX Dragon commercial cargo craft is berthed to the Earth-facing side of the International Space Station's Harmony node. Expedition 31 Flight Engineers Don Pettit and Andre Kuipers grappled Dragon at 9:56 a.m. (EDT) with the Canadarm2 robotic arm and used it to berth Dragon to the at 12:02 p.m. May 25, 2012. Dragon became the first commercially developed space vehicle to be launched to the station to join Russian, European and Japanese resupply craft that service the complex while restoring a U.S. capability to deliver cargo to the orbital laboratory. Dragon is scheduled to spend about a week docked with the station before returning to Earth on May 31 for retrieval

Taking some sport photos
This is my sport photography that is small enough for cycling kit unpacked. You can see that the Thirsty Al that holds my Lumix is strapped to the Soupansalad Son-O that I use to hold all the lenses: you can even see the Quarfie bucket peeking out of it.
Other things you can see. The Panasonic Lumix DMX-LX1, Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G VR, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D, Nikon EN-EL3 spare battery, Native Eyevare Dash XP and spare lenses (for cycling), and the Nikon SB-800 flash.
Things that I stuff in there that you can’t see: Lexar USB 2.0 CF drive and 2GB Sandisk Extreme CF card, Sandisk Ultra II SD card (left it in the Thirsty Al), gel filters for the SB-800, 77mm filters (Hoya 81A + polarizer, Hoya multi-coated UV filter, ExpoDisc white balance filter), wallet.
I also carry my Nikon D70, Nikkor 12-24mm f/4G, RRS L-bracket, Zing handstrap, and UpStrap. But I was using that to take this shot.
I removed the distracting background and changed the tone of the shot to make it look rougher.

An old political poster - when it was marginal

An old political poster found on the same wall as the cinema posters, but this does not belong to the "mini museum" project, I believe. Until 1990 or so, Yurakucho area was a sort of "Speakers Corner" for nationalists, and that is why this area has so many posters like this.
I particularly find this poster weird. The message is "Ammend the Article No 9 of the Constitution, for Japan to be a real independent state." You know now it's on the agenda of our government (Shinzo Abe's government), very officially. At the national diet, debates are going on - I don't know if we really can call it "debates". Something that used to be very marginal is now very official.
