Grand Central on a Rainy Night During the Holidays

I started www.hdrspotting.com/ (and see the Editor's Picks too) with a friend to help bring more attention to other HDR photographers out there. We developed a cutting-edge "attention generation engine", designed to increase traffic for new and old artists all over the world. The site is still in beta, and thus, invite only. You have to know someone to get an invite (don't ask me - I don't hand them out). But you can pick up extra in the HDR group on Facebook, Flickr, and keep searching Twitter for when people have extras to give away.

Here is a testimonial from Brian Matiash:
I was first drawn to HDR Spotting because of the high quality HDR images that were shared by some very talented photographers. Since then, posting my best HDR images to HDR Spotting has become a natural part of my post-processing workflow. When a shot is finalized and ready to share, one of its first stops is at HDR Spotting. Now, most of my images average at least 1,500 views and my Editor's Choice shots average between 7,000 - 8,500 extra views!! I really am loving this added visibility to my work. Great job with the site, keep up the great work!

Daily Photo - Grand Central on a Rainy Night During the Holidays

I took this about the same time I went into Grand Central Station and performed my unique star-pattern maneuver to evade security guards. I described it in detail the next day when I spoke at B&H.

I've perfected a panoply of techniques to circumnavigate and befuddle security guards who don't like tripods. Maybe I will write a little e-book on this some day.

This is another shot of Prospect Bay bathed in early evening sunlight

It seems I had been tagged a week or two back I had originally said I would never participate in the tagging but as I was asked nicely and the person who tagged be apologized after she tagged me I decided to do a list. Ten things most of you don't know about me hmmmmm ! Anyone else tags me I will hunt you down and sing to you for four hours straight and believe I can't carry a tune even in a bucket !!!!!

1: I am a two time cancer survivor, and when I hear of people undergoing chemo it becomes very personal to me whether I know them or not !

2: My best friend, who is also my photography companion, also happens to be my wonderful wife Ann

3: Further to number two we will be renewing our vows on Aug 29th, our anniversary, this Saturday. (I did give her a chance to run, but she refused)

4: I am as avid a fly tier, as I am a photographer, and I do fish with the flies I tie
catch and release only

5: I was a police officer (Military)

6: A car accident ended my Military Career and put me in the hospial for ten months, almost like Evel Knievel have had just about every bone in my body broken. Now everyone knows why I walk funny I really am not drunk !

7: I really enjoy my evening drink of wine or maybe a Brandy or Appleton Estate 21 year Old Rum

8: I am an environmentalist is every sense of the word.

9: I am a blueberry addict, love them however I can get them and I eat them everyday in one way or another

Taking the red only image and overlaying it with the black and white only image produces the eerie effect of color. It is best to see this image in original size, because the auto-resizing causes problems.

It isn't a perfect replication of the original, but it uses half as many colors in the print run. I am sure with some tweaking of levels and contrast it could be improved further.

If you zoom in, you can see that the image is made-up of ONLY black and white and red. All of the Greens, yellows and blues you see do not exist. This is an unexplainable phenomenon with the rods and cones in the eyes.

The Golden Ruined Temple in the Black Jungle

It took many more hours of sweaty hacking through the jungles of Cambodia to find this place, but it was well worth it. The temple was in worse condition than most of the others around Angkor Wat... although there was still plenty of great stuff to explore.

It has come that time of the year again to vote for the 2008 Bloggies! I hope you vote for www.stuckincustoms.com in the "best photography of a weblog" category! :)

I'm in Houston hanging out with attorneys. Well, I am not really hanging out, but I am definitely with attorneys.

I drove down from Austin a few days ago and the city has been totally overcast and kinda dull-lookin'. But tonight, a coldfront started blowing through, so I went up to the roof of the hotel and took this shot.

I would appreciate your vote for the 2008 Bloggies! I hope you vote for www.stuckincustoms.com in the "best photography of a weblog" category! :)

Rose - Cajun Sunrise ?
best image
Explored @ #109 on 6 Dec 2008

Taken in the early morning light at Panchgani ... No editing except for the frame and the copyright mark .. loved the way it turned out . . . Have a great week ahead

I think this is a 'Cajun Sunrise' .. not sure any help with the ID would be appreciated
The most striking thing about Cajun Sunrise is its magnificent color. True to its name, this is the rose that will catch your eye upon entering the garden in the early morning, as the blooms really do reflect the colors of a beautiful sunrise. Cajun Sunrise is categorized by the American Rose Society as a pink blend (pb), which hardly does justice to the luscious blend of pink, yellow and creamy white it presents.

The color has been compared to that of the classic hybrid tea, Peace, with a generous blush of pink on the edges of the petals and a rich yellow at the base, fading to white. It is, however, a much better rose for exhibition than Peace. It is easy to grow, and re-blooms on a regular basis throughout the growing season, making it a great all-around garden rose. Furthermore, these roses have a vase life of four to five days, which makes them perfect for cutting for the home.

Its form is absolutely beautiful, presenting those classic, high centered, spiral blooms that exhibitors adore. The blooms, which generally have between 26 and 40 petals, are full of substance and can grow to as large as 4 or 5 inches across in cool weather. However, they tend to be smaller in the heat. The richly blended blooms, which are somewhat reminiscent of rainbow sherbet, are presented on strong, straight stems, and are clothed in a plentiful array of slightly glossy, deep green foliage.

The growth habit of the plant is medium-tall, vigorous and upright, and it averages a height of four to five feet. Although it only has a very mild fragrance, Cajun Sunrise has many other wonderful attributes. For instance, it offers better than average disease resistance, which is a big plus in most gardens; and it is also relatively shade tolerant. I have moved one of my four bushes into an area that only gets about 3 hours of sun a day, and it is flourishing as much as the plants in full sun.

The immensity of the Great Wall is something that has to be seen to be believed. I don't know if this shot can do it justice, but if you zoom in, you can see how this goes off into the infinite mountains of China.
