-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Magnolia is a large genus of about 210[1] flowering plant species in the subclass Magnolioideae of the family Magnoliaceae.

The natural range of Magnolia species is a disjunct distribution, with a main center in east and southeast Asia and a secondary center in eastern North America, Central America, the West Indies, and some species in South America.

The genus is named after French botanist Pierre Magnol.

I thought I might brighten up our day with a "Spring"-like photo. This is not my idea. Let's be perfectly clear on that. This is based upon a photo by Ruth Bernhard. You can see her brilliant image here: www.soulcatcherstudio.com/exhibitions/favorites/bernhard_... .

In fact, I didn't even come up with the idea to pay homage to this idea! A couple of other fine Flickr folk have done it, including Gixster92 and blackhatspider . But when I was playing with candy necklace pieces for my dailyshoot photo today, the light caught one just right and I was reminded of the image. I decided to go ahead and give it a try myself.

So thank you, Ruth Bernhard. And thank you Gixster92, since your image was actually the one that introduced me to Bernhard's. I liked this better in B&W, but decided that was just a bit too close to ripping off Bernhard entirely, so I left it in colour.

Submitted for Shuttersalt Week 9 : Imitation (I was in China when this one was posted, and just stumbled across it. This image obviously fits!)
"What photographer has you in awe every time you view their work? Is it one of the greats who are studied in every photography 101 class, or is it a Flickr user you've just discovered? Whoever it is, test out your hand at looking at the world through their eyes -- try to capture either a subject you know they'd photograph, or the lighting, composition, movement and other elements that define their photos. Stretch the sides of your own box by exiting it completely for awhile, see what bits and pieces of their style you might want to adopt, or perhaps better see elements of your own style that you didn't realize were yours."

Biography

Matthew Borgatti was born with a painfully overactive imagination, grew up a perfectionist and will probably die on a runaway carnival ride. He went to the Rhode Island School of Design and took summers off to build movie monsters in Burbank beginning with Snakes on a Plane and working his way through Aliens VS Predator II: Requiem.

After graduating with his degree in Industrial design he moved out to California to make his fortune. Although this didn't exactly work out he spent his time there interning at Instructables, building boats for Makani Power, publishing a book called Show Me How, running industrial robots for a show called Prototype This! and helping everyone from independent inventors developing their first product to artists working on giant sculptures for Burning Man through Instinct Engineering.

He once wore a tshirt so witty that people thought he was both sarcastic and sincere at the same time. The paradox stretched the fabric of spacetime so thin that he was able to high five himself. He's currently working at Eyebeam, developing prototypes for and directing the filming of Diana Eng's project Fairytale Fashion.

(Unfortunately the weather was not the best, with an ambient light very bad)

Prague (English pronunciation: /ˈprɑːɡ/; Czech: Praha pronounced [ˈpraɦa] ( listen), see also other names) is the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic. Nicknames for Prague have included "the mother of cities" (Praga mater urbium, or "Praha matka měst" in Czech), "city of a hundred spires", or Stověžatá Praha in Czech and "the golden city" or Zlaté město in Czech.[4]
Situated on the River Vltava in central Bohemia, Prague has been the political, cultural, and economic centre of the Czech state for more than 1100 years. For many decades during the Gothic and Renaissance eras, Prague was the permanent seat of two Holy Roman Emperors and thus was also the capital of the Holy Roman Empire.
Today, the city proper is home to more than 1.2 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of over 1.9 million.[5]
Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, making the city one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, receiving more than 4.1 million international visitors annually, as of 2009.[6]

Lake Como (Lago di Como in Italian, also known as Lario; Lach de Comm in Insubric; Latin: Larius Lacus) is a lake of glacial origin in Lombardy, Italy. It has an area of 146 km², making it the third largest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. At over 400 m (1320 ft) deep it is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the bottom of the lake is more than 200 metres (656 ft) below sea-level.

The Mirror Chase

The Mirror Chase

On Saturday, while visiting a barn sale, I saw this mirror on the wall. I love reflective surfaces, so I automatically snapped a picture and kept going. When I got home, I viewed it on the computer, noticed how much of the barn I could see in its dirty surface, and had an idea.

My friend, Sandra , has been doing a series with two identical wedding dresses she purchased cheaply at a flea market. She uses one as a prop in various locations, from barns to public parks to railroad tracks. (The other has been a back-up). Sandra comes up with some interesting contexts for a simple, white dress!

My idea was to imitate her, but to use the convex mirror to display where I am. Visiting the river, playing with children, sitting in my office. Different environments, same gawdy plastic frame.

So, I ran back to the barn the next day. I figured the owner would sell it to me for five dollars.

Alas, someone beat me to it. Minutes before I arrived, it had been sold. I checked Amazon, but they don't have quite the right thing. And, what they do have is expensive.

So, now I'm on the look-out for a convex mirror. Glad it's yard sale season!

I would they were even cut off which trouble you.

For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
~ Galatians 5:12-14

This kitten is approximately 3 months old (human time). Here we see her teething on the stem of a Wild Coco Yam Leaf. She was all engrossed in satisfying herself. I have other photos of her actually biting the stem. While this is all natural and safe for the kitten, it brought to mind some of our human tendencies.

Believer and unbelievers alike, tend to get engrossed in satisfying our worldly and fleshy needs at times and tend to think that it's the best thing since 'sliced bread'. I spoke to a work associate once that asked me, 'why would a loving God tell us to stop masturbating?'. He also told me that I was excused from that sin because, Christians can just ask for forgiveness. That's where the verse I quoted above came into play.

My associate had a point about not wanting to be freed from his sin. He was engrossed in it and knew no better. Now, don't be so fast to judge him. We who are saved, are saved by grace and some of us were where he is and, if it was not for the blood of Jesus and His grace, we would be a mirror image of my associate today. So think clearly and humbly. Question is, does this kind of love for sin even have hope? Yes it does. However we are here to plant seeds from the word of God into lives like this. We are no better than Him, we are saved without our own merit.

Now my friend, what about his indictment on Christians, that we can do what we want, because of the "forgiveness factor"? The verse from Galatians was not written to unbelievers, but to those that do believe. This means we gotta pick some stuff from our eyes. Unfortunately my associate's argument was not far from the truth - some Christians do believe that they can do whatever they want, because they are 'FREE'. We become engrossed in our own lustful desires just like the world. And guess what, we take that thought from this same verse and others in our Holy Bible.

Sin is common to all human so we are all included - however the Christian, even though we are freed from sin, must see to it that we are working out our salvation each day - abstaining from our fleshly desires (this does not mean sexual sins only, but all sin). Paul said, "I would that they were even cut off which trouble you'. Christians that sin without giving it a second thought and make excuses, not only hurt (trouble) the body of believers, but also pass on the notion to unbelievers that we are excused because of the "forgiveness factor". This kind of behavior weakens our witness to the unbelievers. We must start with ourselves before we go on to others.

Clearly, from Paul's statement, we are called to liberty; but as he said, we must not use the liberty we have in Christ for an occasion to the flesh (an excuse or reason to commit a sin)

Are we engrossing ourselves in fleshly desires (filth) and sometimes feel like, "Aaah... You have no idea how good this feels!" My friend, that's an expression of engrossment we should not have for the world - be very careful, we must answer to God for all our works at the end of time.

What manner of a person should we be... knowing that Jesus will soon return?.

God has way better things for us - we don't need to be digging back into that which we were uplifted from. "Aaah... We have no idea!"

Clover (Trifolium), or trefoil, is a genus of about 300 species of plants in the pea family Fabaceae. The genus has a cosmopolitan distribution; the highest diversity is found in the temperate Northern Hemisphere, but many species also occur in South America and Africa, including at high altitudes on mountains in the tropics. They are small annual, biennial, or short-lived perennial herbaceous plants. The leaves are trifoliate (rarely 5- or 7-foliate), with stipules adnate to the leaf-stalk, and heads or dense spikes of small red, purple, white, or yellow flowers; the small, few-seeded pods are enclosed in the calyx.
