A Textured photo. All photos shot by me and processed in PS. All are from nature, only i add lighting effect ;) This is a composition, the concept is like people took variety of trees and composed them in a garden ;) Yes it's still not so realistic, but i just want it to look interesting (for me la, i hope same with you huhu)

Textures from www.cgtextures.com/ . Or you can shoot by yourself on any surface that has texture that you like. I just wanna save time here :)

Comments and critics about the photo are welcomed (not about the photographer) . PLEASE, no multivitamins in your comments :D. Thanx so much and have great days ahead :)

120 year old Bible title page (year 1885) as of 2005
image search
Full sized version of 120 year old Bible title page (as of 2005) with tape and ripped sections and rusted metal clasps. This bible was originally used in a Protestant church in Oklahoma, from a private family there. The page style is gothic. This is an unedited image - to see more details choose "All Sizes"

We donated this Bible back to the church in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A 92 year old Seattle woman gave it to a friend who gave it immediately to me in West Seattle. She has family but no one is Christian.

As soon as it came into my posession I felt, despite the fine illustrations, unusually fine binding with metal claps and so forth, that it was to be returned to a church on the West Coast. Armed with the Web I went shopping for the right church. Someone paid a lot of money for this bible, and it should have a proper home, restoration, and care. It was too fragile, too fine, and too valuable when restored to be in my collection: I couldn't keep it, shouldn't and didn't.

Searching in Google Image Search over fast internet connection on "Churches + West Coast" when I saw a photo of the Catholic Church in Puerto Vallarta with it's crown of angels - I knew that was the place. Flying from Seattle to Guadalajara Mexico, I took the large old heavy Bible wrapped up in a clean white sheet in my suitcase. I stayed for a week with friends for my first visit to Mexico - Guadalajara is an old city and very beautiful - people took their time making beautiful architecture from stone.

From there with one of my friends I took a cosy and posh regular night bus from Guadalajara to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and rolled it in the suitcase down the long walkway from the oldest hotel in the city to the church, several blocks away.

The friend with me was resistant to entering the Catholic Church as she is a different religion however I pursuaded her that I needed her help - which I did as it turned out because I do not speak Spanish. After holding Mass the prime priest's handler agreed that the lead priest would speak to us about the treasure we wished to donate.

However he just zipped right by us without a glance. So we asked again. The kindest sweetheart of a priest with just the kindest eyes accepted the treasure which he said could be repaired. As a priest, he has seen it all in Puerto Vallarta. He was delighted to have it, and treated it with great respect and reverance. He thanked us profusely as my friend translated.

This shot was photographed on a sheet at our hotel room, laid out on a plastic table, photographed on the deck of the room right next to the sea. With the wind blowing I had to swiftly shoot the images and not many turned out.

The right to freedom of religion is sacred. Freedom of religion means any religion. But you gotta believe in it.

Following the Easter Rising, British Army soldiers are about to search a car that they've stopped on Mount Street Bridge over the Grand Canal, in an area of Dublin that had seen fierce and prolonged fighting.

The car registration is RI 2987. (Dublin registered - RI 1 to 9999 ran from December 1903 to April 1921). According to the Irish Motor Directory and Motorists' Annual for 1915-16, the owner of RI 2987 was Frank D. Mockler, Dunavara, Lucan. Think that the label on the trunk at the back may be a White Star Line label.

Great array of posters in the background for Bass, the Coliseum Theatre, the Tivoli and the Empire, and for Kennedy's Bread.

Note also the frame of one of the Ringsend gasometers at top left. So this photo was not taken early in the morning as the inner cylinder is down (i.e. not full of gas).

If you stood at this spot today, the scene (structurally) would be almost unchanged...

To get some flavour of the atmosphere in Dublin at the time, have a look at this.

Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Technicians apply first aid to simulated victims at a simulated aircraft disaster scene during Canadian Force’s EXERCISE TRILLIUM RESPONSE near Cochrane, Ontario.

Search and Rescue (SAR) in Canada is a challenging and demanding task, and Canadian Forces Search and Rescue Technicians (SAR Techs) are highly-trained specialists providing the on-scene medical attention and rescue for aviators, mariners and others in distress in remote or hard-to-reach areas.

Each year, JTFC along with partner government agencies, conducts a major field training EXERCISE in the province of Ontario to test its ability to provide military assistance to civil authorities. Named the TRILLIUM RESPONSE series of EXERCISEs, these address a range of scenarios under varying environmental conditions. EXERCISE TRILLIUM RESPONSE 2012 provides a realistic and challenging scenario for the soldiers and aircrews of JTFC, while testing JTFC’s command and control in a partnered domestic response. The EXERCISE revolves around reported aircraft crashes outside of Cochrane in the Mistango Lake area, and northwest of Hearst near Constance Lake.

Time for an update from the previous version ..

I ordered the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro USM!! (I'll have to use it on a borrowed 20D for the moment, because my 30D is being repaired)

And I sold the WP-DC800 underwater housing with a Canon digital Ixus 400 .. Shooting with it was fun, but if you know SLR quality, you'll be bothered by the lack of control and quality with an Ixus 400/500 underwater .. I'll buy better underwater gear next time I'll go on a diving holiday ..

I guess this is all I ever need .. probably .. for now .. ;)

UPDATE APRIL 2008

There were protests in cities around the world on January 25 in solidarity with peace activists who have been raided and subpoenaed by the FBI. This protest was sponsored by the Committee to Stop FBI Repression. One of their main complaints are federal grand jury subpoenas issued to Twin Cities and Chicago activists that they consider fishing expeditions for information. The FBI searched homes and offices last fall, property was seized, but no one has been charged with a crime at this time. It was recently revealed that someone from the FBI spent two years undercover in the Twin Cities Anti-War Committee, a group of local peace activists.

My New-Found Calling, And My Entry Into The Photoshop Challenge #2

After all of these weeks of intense soul searching, I had an epiphany as to where my creative future should lie. I came to the conclusion that I will do nothing but digital imaging assignments involving chickens/roosters/ducks merged with machinery from now on. It will be my own niche into the artistic realm of Photoshopography. I plan on renaming my account from "drp" to "fowl play" or "all clucked up," and display my works here for your review. I've always had a fond, personal affection for farm animals, and my love of all things mechanical is well-known by many. I call the pieces born of this unique process "Perdupes."

This is the first result of my new-found calling, which I have entitled "RoboCock vs. MechaniCareBear." I decided to include it into the second Photoshop Challenge as well, since the source materials fit in PERFECTLY with my affinity for the fusion of cocks and cogs.

So, why did the RoboCock cross the tracks?

To regenerate his fuel core with egg-shaped power cells lying in the cacto-scape, before they were stolen by the giant MechaniCareBear looming on the horizon.

Of course!

Fermi National Laboratory 085

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab ), located in Batavia near Chicago, Illinois, is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics. As of January 1, 2007, Fermilab is operated by Fermi Research Alliance, LLC, a joint venture of the University of Chicago and the Universities Research Association (URA). URA is a consortium of 91 leading research oriented universities primarily in the United States, with members also in Canada, Japan, and Italy. Fermilab is a part of the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor.

Fermilab's Tevatron is a landmark particle accelerator; at 6.28 kilometers (4 miles) in circumference, it is the world's second highest energy particle accelerator (LHC is 27 kilometres in circumference). In 1995, both the CDF and D0 (detectors which utilize the Tevatron) experiments announced the discovery of the top quark. In addition to high energy collider physics, Fermilab is also host to a number of smaller fixed target experiments and neutrino experiments, such as MiniBooNE (Mini Booster Neutrino Experiment), SciBooNE (SciBar Booster Neutrino Experiment) and MINOS (Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search). The MiniBooNE detector is a 40-foot (12-meter) diameter sphere which contains 800 tons of mineral oil lined with 1520 individual phototube detectors. An estimated 1 million neutrino events are recorded each year. SciBooNE is the newest neutrino experiment at Fermilab; it sits in the same neutrino beam as MiniBooNE but has fine-grained tracking capabilities. The MINOS experiment uses Fermilab's NuMI (Neutrinos at the Main Injector) beam, which is an intense beam of neutrinos that travels 735km through the Earth to the Soudan Mine in Minnesota.

In the public realm, Fermilab is host to many cultural events, not only public science lectures and symposia, but classical and contemporary music concerts, folk dancing and arts galleries, when the Homeland Security Advisory System permits. Currently the site is open to all visitors from dawn to dusk who present valid photo identification.

Mosquito wings vibrate 500 times each second. That's where the sound comes from. Aerodynamically this is a true masterpiece. Of course the DOP under a microscope is very very low. That's why you have to make many pictures with different DOP variations and stack them with "CombineZP". The camera is a USB microscope ocular for scientific research that was a special offer because it only works with 32bit Windows systems. Search on ebay for "MVV3000". Regular price is around 350-550 €. I payed 99 €.

Hidden Shapes (from an Eagle) in "The Hunting of the Snark"
image search
[top]: Redrawn segment of the print orartie van de Professor L. Wolsogen over syndroom en de nytlegging van de felue gadaen ... by an anonymous artist (1674). The print now is located at British Museum, BM Satires 1047, reg.no. 1868,0808.3286.

[bottom]: Segment of an illustration by Henry Holiday to the chapter The Hunting in Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark (1876)

Here the pattern matches are not as obvious, as in case of the 2010 comparison (shown in the comment), where the source for the reproduction of Holiday's illustration is a low resolution scan from eBooks@Adelaide. Higher resolution does not always help: Low resolution also is a kind of low pass filtering which you apply to images in order to focus on larger patterns. Therefore I inserted a vectorized low resolition segment (without manual manipulations) of Holiday's illustration into the high resolution scan of an illustration from the 1876 edition of The Hunting of the Snark. (eBooks@Adelaide told me that their scans are from the 1876 edition of the Snark as well. In the 1981 William Kaufman edition of the annotaded Snark you will find slightly different prints. There also are reproductons of Holiday's drawings.)

Why might Henry Holiday have hidden that eagle in one of his illustrations to Lewis Carroll's The Hunting of the Snark? I think that - as in case of most (not all) hidden elements in the other illustrations to the Snark - this is a pictorial allusion to another work or art. This is not about eagles. This example shows that Henry Holiday did not use shapes quoted from other illustrations and paintings in order to enhance the artistic value of his illustration by "stealing" from other artists. Rather, he may have used such copied shapes as "pointers" from his own illustrations to these other works of art. Or he simply used the shapes to construct conundrums. That would be taking references to other works of art, not plagiarism.

Four days later, on Oct. 29, that same C-130 from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, CG-1705, was conducting a search for a missing person and skiff near San Clemente Island, about 75 miles S/W of San Diego off our California coast. The search pattern repeatedly took CG 1705 through a military aviation training area. At approximately 7:09 pm, the CG 1705 and a Marine Corps AH-1W Cobra attack helicopter collided, destroying both aircraft and killing all seven Coast Guard and two Marine Corps crew aboard. I felt I couldn't post these photos until now. I do so in the hope their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

This is my first attempt at a multiple HDR photo. It was taken from the hills of Dana Point looking toward Saddleback Valley. I used 3 different exposures for this shot. I think it turned out pretty good for my first attempt.

PACIFIC OCEAN -- Cutter Bertholf's medical specialists attend to two injured sailors Jane Hitchins, 50, and Nik Brbora, 29, who were recovered from a damaged racing yacht 250 miles west of the California coast April 2, 2012. Two sailors were injured after a large wave reportedly struck the 68-foot Geraldton Western Australia (CV6) about 400 miles west of the California coast April 1, 2012 and was followed by more than two days of intense search and rescue operations jointly worked by the Coast Guard, Air National Guard's 129th Rescue Wing and an AMVER vessel. Yahoo Censorship Still Sucks
search image
This is the third time I've uploaded this photo. Best I can tell Yahoo has marked the other two versions of this NIPSA. NIPSA is a tool that Yahoo uses to screen your photos out of public search on Flickr.

NIPSA is a secret anonymous way that your photos are removed from public search without notifying you.

It is a flawed system and it sucks that Yahoo treats their paying customers so poorly.

I imagine that this photo will probably very shortly be moved out of public search on Flickr as well. After all Yahoo it's easier to try and silent your critics than dealing with messy issues like this.
