Long time no see

Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.
- Henri Cartier Bresson

I was trying to explain to my son what these empty film canisters are.

Me: "In the older days, we need to have these in our cameras before we can take pictures..."

Son: "Oh.. are they batteries?" :)

--------------
I've decided to collect a set of photos of these film canisters. For just mere keepsake or not, I love how they look, especially in a set.

I hope they may bring back fond memories for you. Which one is your favorite?

I was interviewed last month by a national magazine here in Wales called Golwg (think Hello! magazine in Welsh :p), along with Janet Kench (aka Brynmeillion here on flickr). Was pleased as punch to find out that they printed 2 of my pics from my Denbigh Asylum set>, obviously had to rush out and buy 10 copies of the magazine for family and to frame :)

So where Janet thinks today Golwg, tommorow, national geo..

I'm thinking today Golwg, tommorow FHM :p

All the world's a stage

The 1/∞ signed print of this photo belongs to Francisco Vilhena de Carvalho.

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages.

William Shakespeare
As You Like It - Act 2, Scene 7

First experiment with a very tall boom light tripod (counter-weighed) I bought. Canon 580EX II @ 105mm pointed straight down on TTL, triggered by a Canon ST-E2.

2 days in the darkroom = 3 prints. And they're not even on fiber! I'm sure I'll get quicker at this eventually, but I'm very anal about the outcome of the photos.

Hover over the image for more notes on the prints.

Oh, and this photo does these photos absolutely no justice. They're much more brilliant in person.

Framed Brian Wood art/ Obama poster from Sarasota

I got the prints of Brian's work a while back, thought they would look good as panels in a single frame... and the Obama poster was from when Cottam, Timo and me went and volunteered back in October on the eve of his visit to Sarasota, Fl. Framing was by www.guestframes.co.uk/ on Whitecross Street, London.

Busch Pressman Model D 4x5 Camera - 135mm Raptar lens with a Rapax shutter. 1 second exposure due to an unreliable shutter.

Contact print on Ilford Ilfospeed semi-matt Paper RC, grade 3
A version scanned from the negative is at www.flickr.com/photos/pigpilot/7254941756/ I'm not sure whether I prefer the scanned version or the contact print. The contact print certainly hides some of the flaws on the negative and is easier as I can't scan a 4x5 negative in one go.

Circuit.Path

Photographing my first series of prints from 2004.

Here I let go about about 10,000 wandering particles from nine discrete locations (seen in this photo are three of them). They wandered around leaving a path behind until death. The final composition was rendered to 12000 x 8000 pixels and output to paper.

More information on the Paths algorithm here.

This shade is pulled down.

Printed from photos I took of the trees off the porch, photoshopped into photos of the window frames. This one worked the best except the big curtains. So the idea is for the window shades to look as if there is no shade on the window (although I used slightly nicer views of the outside trees)

Déjà vu

With my new rented flat, I decided to print some of my pics as wall decoration (not a bad idea :-P). I finally ended with too much of them :) I was so happy to see them printed.

I went to a professional photolab to get those shots.

According to Flickr's policy, I'm not supposed to say that, but I wish I could sell some of those framed pictures. Just knowing that some people would appreciate that in their home makes my little heart warmer.

The picture entitled "Where To?", attached on the wall is a 90x60cm (1m long with the frame). I never thought frames would be that expensive...

I realized that view represents some my most Flickr's insteresting shots :-O.
And they are all take in the last 6 months!
